{"id":21,"date":"2022-10-29T15:52:58","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T19:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box2099.temp.domains\/~jereicoc\/?page_id=21"},"modified":"2023-05-22T16:59:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T20:59:38","slug":"advanced-mechanics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jereico.com\/staging\/2794\/devastation-evoker-guide\/basics\/advanced-mechanics\/","title":{"rendered":"Devastation Evoker Advanced Mechanics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This section covers some of the more advanced mechanics for Devastation Evoker, including early-chaining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> casts, as well as lesser-known tips and tricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"0-disintegrate-chaining-and-the-pandemic-mechanic\">Disintegrate Chaining and the Pandemic Mechanic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Channelled spells in World of Warcraft generally share most behaviour with Damage Over Time effects, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> is no exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-what-is-pandemic-or-disintegrate-chaining\">What is &#8220;Pandemic&#8221;, or Disintegrate chaining?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPandemic\u201d as a mechanic generally refers to recasting a DoT within the last 30% of its remaining duration such that the remaining duration adds on to the base duration of the newly applied DoT, resulting in no loss of damage when reapplying DoTs early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> normally ticks four times over the duration of two global cooldowns. If you cast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a>, and then clip the channel just after the third damage tick by casting a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a>, the last remaining tick and duration are added onto the new cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-what-is-the-point-of-chaining-disintegrate\">What is the point of chaining Disintegrate?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a somewhat subtle interaction, but this effect ultimately has two major consequences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This mechanic is essentially how you \u201cspell queue\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a>; chaining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> casts in this way serves to minimise damage lost to downtime between spell casts (it can add up!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This allows you to spend your Essence or Essence Burst earlier than otherwise possible, helping to minimize or prevent over-capping of resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=386272\/titanic-wrath\">Titanic Wrath<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=370867\/iridescence\">Iridescence<\/a> <strong>always<\/strong> provide four buffed ticks of Disintegrate per Essence Burst spent regardless of whether the Disintegrate casts were chained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-when-should-i-chain-disintegrate\">When should I chain Disintegrate?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As long as you intended to cast one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> after another, you should <strong>always<\/strong> use the chaining mechanic between these casts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pandemic or chaining mechanic is a clever tool for minimising downtime between channelled casts, and to minimize wasted resources. Changes to certain interactions have eliminated any apparent downsides, and chaining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> is always encouraged as long as proper timing is considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is an <strong>example <\/strong>of two chained casts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> using the Pandemic mechanic. The first cast ticks 3 times before the spell is cast a second time, and the second cast ticks 5 times, for a total of 8 ticks, as expected. Be sure to <strong>always <\/strong>chain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> <strong>after<\/strong> the second-to-last tick, aiming for the \u201cpandemic safe zone\u201d in the last 20 percent or so of the cast bar to be safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/T5p82HAoZQUf6oEGSAgIYxMUEvhOZu8mT702Tr_LyaPg7du_sVxlKYfOX9PJ4S0jBxH0wiikzYLxVdX1_byj9q3hr-9z6OBHcmuuNH2-twAGsbBmylCN8709D_uiAJedGy-EnGGfBvKp2PYSiy7UyE5bm-Lu1ri3MMfU0Qo0gMGv7l4WA-_fzuIIVQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-hover-and-movement\">Hover and Movement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> is the cornerstone of Devastation Evoker mobility, allowing you to cast most spells while moving, with the exception of Empower spells <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=357208\/fire-breath\">Fire Breath<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=359073\/eternity-surge\">Eternity Surge<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thoughtful and deliberate usage of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> is the key to maintaining uptime of Devastation&#8217;s core damaging spells in spite of the 25-yard range restriction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As currently implemented, casting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> while moving incurs a short 0.45 second animation lock and launches you in your direction of movement. This includes a surprisingly helpful dodge backwards when holding down backpedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> while standing still also incurs a short animation lock, but you do not move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The animation lock from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> prevents additional spell casting for its duration, however <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> can be cast during the global cooldown of other spells as if it were an off-global ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that you can actually lead with an instant cast ability like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=362969\/azure-strike\">Azure Strike<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=357211\/pyre\">Pyre<\/a>, or if talented, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=375801\/burnout\">Burnout<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=370818\/snapfire\">Snapfire<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=370452\/shattering-star\">Shattering Star<\/a> to slightly optimise damage dealt, and even macro an instant cast ability together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> if you were truly so inclined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> also includes a short grace period, where you are allowed to finish your cast while moving as long as you began the spell cast while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> was still active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional casts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=367909\/hover\">Hover<\/a> stack duration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-blessing-of-the-bronze-and-time-spiral\">Blessing of the Bronze and Time Spiral<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Evoker has access to two abilities that affect allied players\u2019 major movement abilities:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=364342\/blessing-of-the-bronze\">Blessing of the Bronze<\/a>: Reduces the cooldown of a major movement ability for all party and raid members for one hour.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=374968\/time-spiral\">Time Spiral<\/a>: Grants allies one additional free cast of their major movement ability for 10 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are the major movement abilities affected by these two effects for each class:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Death Knight: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=48265\/deaths-advance\">Death&#8217;s Advance<\/a><br>Demon Hunter: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=195072\/fel-rush\">Fel Rush<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=189110\/infernal-strike\">Infernal Strike<\/a><br>Druid: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=1850\/dash\">Dash<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=252216\/tiger-dash\">Tiger Dash<\/a><br>Evoker: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=358267\/hover\">Hover<\/a><br>Hunter: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=186257\/aspect-of-the-cheetah\">Aspect of the Cheetah<\/a><br>Mage: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=1953\/blink\">Blink<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=212653\/shimmer\">Shimmer<\/a><br>Monk: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=109132\/roll\">Roll<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=115008\/chi-torpedo\">Chi Torpedo<\/a><br>Paladin: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=190784\/divine-steed\">Divine Steed<\/a><br>Priest: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=73325\/leap-of-faith\">Leap of Faith<\/a><br>Rogue: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=2983\/sprint\">Sprint<\/a><br>Shaman: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=79206\/spiritwalkers-grace\">Spiritwalker&#8217;s Grace<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=58875\/spirit-walk\">Spirit Walk<\/a><br>Warlock: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=48020\/demonic-circle-teleport\">Demonic Circle: Teleport<\/a><br>Warrior: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/spell=178367\/heroic-leap\">Heroic Leap<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-additional-tips-and-tricks\">Additional Tips and Tricks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=355913\/emerald-blossom\">Emerald Blossom<\/a> does not cost Essence for Devastation Evoker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=357210\/deep-breath\">Deep Breath<\/a> can be quite finicky; while the spell has improved through Dragonflight&#8217;s development, it can potentially fail to cast while still incurring its cooldown if the end destination is unreachable, or if you are stunned, etc., prior to beginning the flying animation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is highly recommended to have the class ability <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=360022\/chosen-identity\">Chosen Identity<\/a> turned on at all times. Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=372014\/visage\">Visage<\/a> form provides you (and your party) with non-trivial increased out-of-combat health regeneration, which is excellent for open-world and instanced content like M+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=359073\/eternity-surge\">Eternity Surge<\/a> does not automatically cancel if the primary target dies while holding Empower. In this situation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=359073\/eternity-surge\">Eternity Surge<\/a> goes on cooldown, and damage to the primary target is lost, but the spell will continue to deal damage to an appropriate number of nearby targets based on the Rank of the spell cast.&nbsp;You must manually cancel the spell cast in order to prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=359073\/eternity-surge\">Eternity Surge<\/a> from casting and going on cooldown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=386272\/titanic-wrath\">Titanic Wrath<\/a> does not buff any additional effects triggered when casting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=356995\/disintegrate\">Disintegrate<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=357211\/pyre\">Pyre<\/a>, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=370821\/scintillation\">Scintillation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=369089\/volatility\">Volatility<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=370665\/rescue\">Rescue<\/a> generally does not interrupt your ally\u2019s spellcasting, with some exceptions like Empower skills. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowhead.com\/beta\/spell=370665\/rescue\">Rescue<\/a> your friends to your heart\u2019s content guilt-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jereico.com\/staging\/2794\/devastation-evoker-guide\/basics\/talent-interactions\/\">&lt; Previous (Talent Interactions)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jereico.com\/staging\/2794\/devastation-evoker-guide\/talent-builds\/\">Next (Talent Builds) &gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This section covers some of the more advanced mechanics for Devastation Evoker, including early-chaining Disintegrate casts, as well as lesser-known tips and tricks.
